Our data center has a policy that I find interesting, and am inviting
comment on. All backup tapes are sent off site, as part of the disaster
recovery plan. Retrieval takes time and costs money. While this data
center has not burned down to date, I appreciate the sense of off-site
storage. I think that having the best of both worlds, keeping certain
recent backups on site, and recent and historical tapes off site, makes
more sense, but am not sure how to best achieve this. I am told that the
data center neither has a DAT copier, nor an MPE utility to achieve
this. One suggestion was to perform two sets of backups. TANSTAAFL;
anything we can come up with will cost something. Again, comments are
welcome, and suggestions appreciated.
