Hello Mark,

This problem is about NCSA and APACHE 1.2.1 webserver's cgi output
to have intermittently missing chunks of bytes somewhere in the middle
of the output, rendering the cgi output pretty much crippled. The servers
are running on a MPEiX5.5 express 2 platform. The problem occurrs with
posix shell scripts as well as with C executables.

The OpenMarket free trial does in no way show this problem. In fact it
was fixed in the OM server code. Jim Hofmeister
<[log in to unmask]> writes:

'The specific "CGI DATA LOSS" problem resolved was 'only' seen with
the Open Market Web Server (as was reported by others on this list)
and the fix was made in the Open Market Web Server code, not in posix.'

I can positively testify that the problem also occurrs with NCSA and
APACHE. In fact, apart from missing chunks of bytes, the APACHE
server goes a bit further: one single cgi program output (to stdout) is
sometimes 'split' into 2 separate subsequently transmitted outputs to the
web client with each their own headers etc. The output then appears as
if two cgi outputs are concatenated onto one web page. It may still be
that the server code does not -or not correctly- handles buffering of cgi
stdout output? Just guessing... Keep in mind, the same cgi works well
with OpenMarket.

With OpenMarket Out Of the Market, hp3000 web servers who process
cgi-output correctly become frighteningly scarce...Mark, can you
indentifiy the problem and fix this in your APACHE?
