With all the doom and gloom in the news, with the daily announcements
about the stock market and yes, with the messages coming through on
the list about another 3000 being taken off-line, I thought I'd post
some good news (at least, it's good news for me).

Back in August, when I first joined the HP3000 list, I posted a
message saying that if anyone ever had an inexpensive HP3000 for sale,
please let me know. To be honest, I figured that it would be a long
time before anything I could afford would show up.

Today, I am the proud owner of a beautiful HP3000 927LX, courtesy of
Keven Miller ([log in to unmask]), who remembered my posting and for
an *extremely* reasonable amount of money, shipped me the 927LX with
MPE 6.0 and tapes for the tape drive (as well as a terminal). To be
honest, I am completely floored by his generosity and can't thank him
enough.

This is one machine I have always wanted to own; my experience with
MPE has mostly been as a user (back in college, at the University of
Tennessee at Chattanooga), so this is a new experience for me.

I had enough time tonight to power up the machine and boot the OS, and
here is a link to 2 photos showing my new baby. :)

Keven, thank you so much... I've been on a hellish schedule at work
and this machine (and your generosity) have made my week.
