Hi Joe!
Thanks for the horror story, complete with HP3000 kudos. But...

1) Does IP really want their name on this now-public info?  YOW!  Be
paranoid!

2) Wouldn't it have been reasonable to TEST the backup strategy one time
when it was changed?
This failure could happen on an HP3000 just as well as any other system.

1. Be NOT Paranoid, just cautious.
2. Have a Fall Back Plan (such as a functional backup procedure)
3. Test your Fall Back Plan (WHEN it changes)
4. Be NOT Paranoid, but check it once in a while.
