Joseph;

Of COURSE it could be that simple. That's precisely why it won't be done.

Subject: [HP3000-L] A Thought on OpenMPE

A thought just occurred to me. I am sure has occurred to others before me
but I have not seen stated anywhere.

HP is pushing toward "industry standard" servers. These servers will be
capable of using of Linux. It would then be to their advantage to facilitate
the OpenMPE/Linux emulator.

One of the big migration questions is why HP-UX? Why not Sun or AIX or some
other Unix server? For that matter why Unix?

We all know that applications drive hardware not vice-versa. People that are
forced off of their 3000 platform will get hardware that runs the software
they chose. HP may or may not be chosen as the server vendor depending on a
number of factors.

However, if HP is positions themselves to be leaders in the Intel based
midrange server market, Itanium, then their chances to be the server vendor
of choice increase if MPE can be emulated under Linux. It would be a win win
situation. I'm sure it can't be that simple or can it?

The opinions expressed herein are my own and not necessarily those of my
employer.
