The answer to most Quiz problems is to buy Suprtool and use
it to do the build extracts and feed it to Quiz for deluxe reporting...
or just bypass Quiz altogether and export it as a CSV file to your pc.

Now before you go saying we can not afford it, think how much time and
machine
resources you are wasting by NOT having Suprtool. Get the 30 day demo,
see how much faster it can extract the data, and make a business case for
buying
it.

Suprtool chews through large serial datasets on my slowest machine at around
4 or 5mb a second, plus sort time, etc. When selecting a small percentage of
the records read, it is always disc input bound, so runs at the speed of
your
disc. Since it won't be doing random linking like Quiz might, the run time
is seldom much more than the time to serial read (at ultra high speed) the
required data sets, plus a little time to sort and match up records (when
multiple data sets are required.

Subject: [HP3000-L] Improvement Suggestions on PH code

Fellow list members,

A programmer in our site keeps submitting the following QUIZ code in an
attempt to extract information for some financial reconciliation task.
Each time, the job runs for many many hours, causing a bit of grief to the
rest of the staff/users.

Does anyone on this list have any suggestions (forgetting for a moment
about the obvious ones of using some other tool) for speeding the process
up?

So far the process has run for over 15 hours. The first 'request'
extracted 960 records (I assume rather quickly) and it now seems to be
'stuck' in the second 'request'. Glance indicates that it is around the
half way point of processing the subfile from step one. I should also
indicate that PCTRD0 is an image dataset with about 33 million entries.
