For my Zip drive. I didn't want to shell out more money for a drive with
a switch, and got tired of plugging and unplugging the thing. So I
decided to do it myself, clamping a simple rotary switch (the kind you
find on certain cheap AC light cords) onto the cord running from the
power supply to the drive.

Now it powers up, but when you insert a Zip disk the yellow light
flashes but the drive never spins up and eventually the yellow light
goes into a slow flash indicating an error state.

My guess is the switch I used has too much resistance and is
overpowering (no pun intended) the meager 5 volt/1 amp power supplied to
the drive.

So, anyone know where I can get a good, inexpensive switch with the
right rating? I tried Radio Shack and all they had were switches
designed for AC stereo equipment. :(

(Wirt? You seem to know about all things electrical... What do you say?)

TIA,
Patrick (hoping I haven't wrecked my Zip drive!)
