From yesterday's thread of this title we found out some
further issues.

Again last night I set up a drag and drop copy of a
1.1GB file from an HPe3000 to a Windows/98 box using
Windows Explorer screens, I had configured Samba/iX
on the HPe3000 so that the file structure looked like
any other domain in Explorer.

I misreported this being an NT domain, it was really
a Win2K domain, (not that I think it makes a difference
here.)

Yesterday I reported that our 100Base-T card was only
configured for 10Base-T due to an old switch. I also
reported our NT (really the Win2K) server was also
using this old switch in 10Base-T mode. This is still
the case and I think the old switch contributes to the
overall slowness.

But not I think, to the degree of slowness below:

When I came in this morning, the file progress was
only one 5th across the status bar of the drag and
drop file copy and it reported there were still 921
minutes left.

After some calculations, I figured the transfer rate
was about 921 bytes a minute.

I finally gave up and went into a DOS Window and called
up FTP and connected to the HPe3000. The file transferred
in 30 minutes at about 615Kbytes/sec.

So what is it about using Window interfaces?

Or is it the Win2K server?

Or is it the Samba/iX?
