The reason I posted it to the list is that this
is a test/crash & burn machine (and therefore
hardware maintenance is not being used.)

However THIS is a leading indicator that I should
hook up a modem on ldev 21 and have the hardware
vendor run the offline utility on the remote
console.

(This a good one for the HP3000 archives.)

 That reboot suggestion was to correct the missing message after
the formatvol - not to mount the disc. Several other folks have
run into the "missing message" after using formatvol to sanitize
discs before selling them to me. It seems to happen mostly with
Mirvutil and 2Gb and 4Gb discs. Once the message shows up... or
should that be doesn't show up.... there is no hope of addressing
that unit with MPE until rebooting. Too bad it can't tell us.
 If SCRATCHVOL, NEWVOL/NEWSET, INITVOL, and FORMATVOL don't help
your friendly CE can talk you through using an offline utility to
overwrite the volume label.
