I imagine that there are some who would like to see hp overrun by vandals
and visigoths, its buildings and campuses razed to the ground, and the land
salted so that no living thing ever grows there again.
But the answer to James's question is that hp ranks 28th in the 2002 Fortune
500, down from 19th last year. Compaq is 46th. IBM is 9th, down from 8th
last year. Sun is 112th, up from 125th last year. Microsoft is 72nd, up from
79th last year. And, as incentive for list members to examine who's who on
the Fortune 500 list and who fared better than hp or IBM, Enron is 5th, up
from 7th last year (I predict big movement for them), and number one on the
list is also the largest employer in the U.S.
