Well, we do VSTORE on our tapes. This tells us if the tape is good. The
other thing to do is error check the store. There are error codes that
come from the store process. If you use the ;ONERROR=QUIT parm, you can
check the codes to see if the store worked.

Later.

Subject: Verifying DAT backups

We have been backing up our HP3000 995/200 using DDS-2 tapes. It seems that
there is no way of verifying that the backup is "good".

Talking to the response center, we were told that there was no way of
verifying that the DAT tapes were good, that the drives are functioning
correctly, or that a backup is good.

What are others doing to verify that a DAT tape backup is good and usable
if
needed for restore?

Thanks.
