We plan to move slowly, but new code will be written in a style
that is more portable. For example, we're working on web-enabling
and our new middle-tier application code is using XML for input
and output. We will be using SQL interfaces to Image data when
we maximum performance isn't a problem. This, and similar approaches,
should make porting of the code relatively easy.
This is our solution to the "legacy problem". We're going to
rewrite as much as we can "in place" on the 3000, but using portable
techniques, while also enhancing the software at the same time.
