I know, FileZilla is not the first I've tried - it is just the first time
I've investigated why a PC-based gui FTP client does not work with MPE.

Me too - been doing it like forever. I maintain (via ftp) a number of web
sites on all kinds of different machines, including MPE, and it would be
nice to use the same process. Silly me, expecting MPE to give the same
standard responses as every other ftp server in the world. I guess HP would
just say we are lucky to have any ftp at all since it never made any money
selling ftp.
