At my previous place of employment I worked with a contract programmer who
was a fantastic programmer.

At one point he told me he would be out of the USA for 30 days visiting with
his family in IRAN, but he would check his emails and voice messages daily.
I never thought of him as Iranian. I first saw him as a great programmer
and valuable asset to our company. I thought it was great that he could
close up shop here and return to his family in Iran and still be available
to help us if needed.

On the flip side I had close friends who were in Iran in 1978 and barely
escaped with their suitcases. I house maid told my friends, as they were
leaving, to place a picture of the Komanie (sp) on the outside of their
suitcases; which they did. As they got to the airport security was forcing
everyone leaving to open their suitcases, and sometimes wouldn't let the
people take their belongs with them. As my friends approached the security
officers they saw the pictures on their suitcases and waved them through
without so much as a word.

You can't stereotype a nation based a few acquaintances, either good or bad!

Hear Hear. It is "tribalism" that caused this attack, and the dancing in
the streets in Palestine. We must raise our voices in defense of the
guiltless, and avoid placing blame on entire races, nationalities or
religions. That being said, there are people who are guilty, and the
response needs to be severe and even extreme, if selective.
