I also had the problem with ODBC using Excel 5.0 and Access 2.0. And I
was using TCP/IP 31 3.11a from Microsoft. I found that I had a conflict
from earlier TCP/IP stacks that had created entries in PROTOCOL.INI and
SYSTEM.INI and maybe other places. The problem went away when I cleaned
up all the files (the first time was by hand, the second was by erasing
Windows and reinstalling). I would suggest you get an empty PC, install
from scratch and see if your problems continue. I have been using TCP/IP
from Microsoft since 1993 and have had very few problems. I'm now using
version 3.11b Beta that comes with the MSDN Developer CD's.

As we excape the confort of a single vendor solution and enter the Brave
New World of "user supported" software, we find that we are on our own.
Unix Administrator's have always depended on the help of kind strangers
and do it seems, we will too. I have made this news group my first
source for support information. Not so much because it is accurate as it
is very creative. And it gives me new things to try. Today, I found out
why, I couldn't get RYDER to load. Thanks to all the helpful people on
this group, you don't know what you may have saved us all.

Thanks
Mel Rees
