1.  What Denys said in his post...

2.  Outlook uses pure SMTP and TCP/IP...this means that a TCP/IP stack is
necessary to run it, if using Outlook for Internet Mail.  There are other
services available (ie: Microsoft Mail, etc)...but for the Internet Mail
service, TCP/IP is a necessity.
