Greg,

Hello and Welcome!

I understand your desire to be certain that the box is big enough but the
information below really doesn't say enough.

First, how many transactions per/sec/min/hour are you trying to push? Or
perhaps how large is your user population?

What is the exceptable reponse time?

What's the complexity of your data base and it's relationships with the
application? (lots of complex queries etc..)

What does the macine resources look like(IO channels, memmory, network
interface)?

The first question will probably be the hardest to guess at if you don't
already have a test case or any historical information to view. It makes
everything else harder to work with if you don't have anything.

I would guess that a 979/200 would be great to start with. It might even be
overkill, but it's hard to tell without all the information.

Are there any other sites running this application? Perhaps they might be
able to give you an idea.

Not much help, but good luck all the same!

Dave

Subject: HP3000 979/200 <-> SAMBA / ODBC

Hi. I am fairly new to the world of HP3000 (like since
May this year.) I was just wondering if any of you had
some practical advice on ImageSQL (we're also running
Oracle RDBMS)? My biggest concerns are:

A. is a 979/200 a robust enough system to run
intensive SQL queries on?

B. Any good resources you would recommend on the
topic?

Thanks
