Many of you may already know, but it is new to us:
If you have SECURITY/3000 from VESOFT, you have the option of setting up UNIX style logins.
The controls for this are set in HELLO.DATA.VESOFT.
Several things are required, not the least of which is to observe the restriction of what order the parameters are added to the file!
All you have to do is uncomment "$ASSUME-HELLO" and assign aliases to the selected userids you wish to use UNIX style logons.
A brief sample file looks like this:
(* AIF:PE HELLO Configuration File *************************************)
(********************************* LOGGING *****************************)
$MPELOG 1
$SECLOG 0
$DEBUGLOG 0
(********************************* HELLO EDITS *************************)
(* $CHANGE HI HELLO *)
$ASSUME-HELLO
(********************************* HELLO ABBREVIATIONS *****************)
$HELLO SU MANAGER.SYS;HIPRI
$HELLO CONSOLE CONSOLE,OPERATOR.SYS;HIPRI
(********************************* CONFIGURATION ***********************)
(* NOPARM -1 *)
$TIMEOUT 120
$CONFIG TIMEOUT allow @.@
$CONFIG NETWORK allow @.@
At the hello : prompt (this only works from the prompt to initiate new sessions) from this example a
SU
Would log on to :HELLO MANAGER.SYS;HIPRI
and a
CONSOLE
Would log on to :HELLO CONSOLE,OPERATOR.SYS
This is really great feature from VESOFT and we are now using it for our operations staff.
We expect to save 10,000 keystrokes or more per year.
(At 10,000 strokes an hour at $15 per hour, hmmm.
Oh, well.
If it were our clients it would be millions of strokes, but they couldn't take the strain of change--they're too used to :HELLO userid.account!)
