For starters, do you have Job Initiation or Console Log turned on for logging?

To find out, check sysgen...

:sysgen
sysgen> lo
   log>sh

       configurable item max min curren
       ----------------- ------- ------- ------
       # of user logging processes 128 2 64
       # users per logging process 2851 1 128

system log events event # status
       ----------------- ------- ------
       System Logging 100 ON
       System Up 101 ON
       Job Initiation 102 OFF
       Job Termination 103 OFF
       Process Termination 104 OFF
       NM File Close 105 OFF
       System Shutdown 106 ON
       Power Failure 107 ON
       I/O Error 111 ON
       Physical Mount/Dismount 112 OFF
       Logical Mount/Dismount 113 OFF
       Tape Label 114 OFF
       Console Log 115 ON
       Program File Event 116 ON

If they are not turned on, there isn’t much to do.

If they are,

Do a LISTF LOG####.PUB.SYS,2
Then run the program LOGTOOL
then HELP LIST will display...

LOGTOOL>help list

   Syntax:

      LIST LOG=<log list> | FILES=<file list>
           [;OUTFILE=<file name>]
           [;TYPE=<type list>]
           [;<field label>=<data list>]
           [;DATE]
           [;TIME]
           [;WIDE]
           [;HEXDUMP]

Use Type = 102 for Job Initiation and 115 for Console log.

If LOGTOOL isn't a program, let us know for more help.

Subject: [HP3000-L] Need some Log file help, please?

Our 3k is still used for historical transactions, and likely will for the foreseeable future. Upper management has asked if we can provide a count of fo9lks that have logged into it for access during the past 90 days, and the only method I’m aware of is the log files.

Is there anything out there that’s readily available and somewhat easy to use for an old guy (sigh), to read the log files and make sense of them?

Thanks!!
