I have modified the original post several times.  The situation is this:

While trying to get the Telamon async engine to talk to a port we first
tried ldev 21 (since it already had a modem on it).  Testing the engine
caused the port to hang.  So I configured a DTC port as a modem port (ldev
231) and tried the engine again.  The port hung.  That's when I tried to use
SYSDIAG>TERMDSM to reset the port (ldev 231) which occasioned the original
post about the diagnostic system not working.

But, yes this is a 918 and ldev 21 can't be reset by mere mortals without a
reboot (which is the first reason we were going to reboot this weekend).
However, even a power cycle of the DTC doesn't reset that port, hence reason
number 2 for the reboot.
