I've never tried the "move" option on a PUT, but it works fine on a GET.

You are using lower case for the "move", right?  I've discovered that
using "MOVE" in upper case does not seem to work.  (Is this a known bug
in FTP, I wonder?  The documentation seems pretty clear that the case
shouldn't matter.)

my HP3000 file FB021111, but it did not
And I must say that finding anything in a manual on FTP was a 
frustrating task.  What should be simple - do an online search
never seems to work out for me - I hate it, I hate it, I hate it !  
Sorry, that's "off topic" from my question - but I never seem to have
much luck in doing searches, in general, and even less luck in searching
