I believe the 256 MB modules should go in the lowest numbered
slots, but here's the link to the "System Memory Upgrade Guide
for HP3000/9x9KS and HP9000/Kxx0" from docs.hp.com....

        http://docs.hp.com/hpux/pdf/A2375-90009.pdf

....where all your questions should be answered. Mine were!

  Good luck!

Subject: Memory SIMM question

We have an e3000 979/100 with one memory cage. Half of the 16 slots are
filled,
all with 64 Mb SIMMs.

I tried adding a pair of 256 Mb Simms in the next available slots and
encountered errors upon system startup. I retreated by deleting the
additional
SIMMs and am back to my starting point.

Question: Since the new SIMMs are higher capacity, do they need to go in
slots
'0a' and 'Ob'? I think I read that somewhere, but am not sure. Also, did I
not
read that HP likes to have its own memory in slot '0'?

Thanks, again, for your time. I tried to look up this info, but could not
find
it in the HP manuals.
