If you can rent a Smart car they get around 60 mpg - any of the small
diesels - Audi, VW...

Have to say there is a Smart car running around Sacramento with Swiss
plates - and if he ever got hit with one of the behemoth SUVs it's be a
sorry sight...

I remember (Michael Baier?) post of having the Harley in Germany - a couple
of
years ago I stopped in Helsinki and saw these Harley guys in leathers,
little Beanie helmets (I can't explain that) - looking for all the world
like they are going to Sturgis - and I see on the back of their leather
jackets they were from Lithuania - man - Europe has sure changed since my
Army days 30 years ago...

Got back from the Monterey Historic Races last weekend - if anyone wants
pics - from my dial up - let me know - highlight seemed to be Stirling Moss
and Jay Leno in the 300SLR he won in Italy 50 years ago...I'd like to go to
Goodwood one of these days...

Anyway BMW had a great display of their bikes - if gas gets to $6 I may get
a bike - you can still be cool (some say cooler) with 2 wheels - They had in
addition to their boxer engines the German version of the Japanese crotch
rocket - couldn't see the engine behind the faring but the speedo went to
190...
