We have had to use TERMDSM a bit lately and there are several causes:

Sometimes this is because the power browns out and the HP3000 (ups works
just fine) does not go down but the peripheral devices do and it hangs the
port.

Sometimes this is an indicator that the port on the DTC is getting ready to
go.

I also have problems with a port when a user does not exit gracefully when
signing off for the day.

How have you been doing the shutdown on that device?

Hope this helps,

Subject: Abortio Error

I have an application that opens a DTC connected to an X.25 pad and then
transmits information back and forth with another computer. Every evening it
shuts down for the backup and restarts the next morning.

Since Monday, it hasn't been restarting properly. It hangs when it tries to
do an FOPEN on the device. An abortio on the device gives me an error:

HLIO internal error. Command cannot be executed. (CIERR 3161)

which I've never seen before. I have to reset the LDEV with TERMDSM before I
can reconnect.

I've been able to determine that as soon as the application FCLOSE's the
device and terminates, the device is already in this broken state. Although
at this stage a SHOWDEV indicates that the device is available, an ABORTIO
will give me the above error until I reset the LDEV.

Does anybody know what the error message means, and what I might be doing
wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Bruce
