This works fine unless the user has a file named "total" on the system,
in which case you get the *wrong* answer, and no indication that it is
the wrong answer. Typical UNIX application :-) [...]39_12May199711:53:[log in to unmask]

Whoaah!

*Real* MS Beta Programs are not charged for and are free. This does not
include the "preview" programs where MS does charge to preview a
soon-to-be-released program, usually a shipping charge. Also, as a MS
beta tester, you have requirements you have to fulfill and they are not
easy...

Also, this is not the same as MSDN, which is the Microsoft Developers
Network - a library of CDs which are a purchased product. In essence,
MSDN comes in several levels starting at US$199 for the library itself, to
over US$1500 for the library, operating systems, and a 5-user license to
all of the Backoffice products. There are two levels in between. This is
not a beta program, although MSDN subscribers do get preview copies (after
beta testers have had their way with it for a long time).

Hopefully, this should clear up any misconception... MS pays quite a bit
for their beta programs. Burning CDs, sending them via Airborne
overnight, maintaining an extensive array of people to fight the reported
bugs and working with testers --- MS pays the entire freight for this.
MSDN subscribers (and TechNet subscribers as well) reap the benefit of
this by getting first peeks of a soon-to-be-released product.
