I, too, went directly from 4.0 to 5.5 on a 949 system in mid November.  I
didn't have any problems at all.  Basically just backed up the system,
followed the checklist, rebooted the system and let users back on.  Haven't
experienced any problems since the upgrade either (except getting used to
this hybrid "not-quite-unix" shell).
