In preparing to cut over to the new LPQ1000 (C3204D) printer I
discovered that a couple of applications we have use the old
;ENV=<vfcfile> option. In this file there is a line for
MODE=FEATURE/TRANSPARENT. I specified a VFC file on a couple of
spoolfiles that contained embedded escape codes for setting up the laser
jet printers (compressed). I used the MODE=TRANSPARENT so that the
spool files could also be printed on green-bar on the line printer at
full page (accountants want both). Apparently the MODE command only
applies to HP-IB devices as I can find no reference to it in any
LPQ/Spooler documentation. If I follow the same procedure we do on the
HP-IB printer and print the file to the new LPQ printer, the escape
sequences get processed and the print becomes compressed.

Is there a comparable "feature" for the LPQ printer that will allow a
spoolfile with embedded escapes to become TRANSPARENT when printed on
the LPQ?
