Along the same line, our household will have an au pair from Montreal,
Quebec, in a few weeks. She was 6 months old when I landed in Montreal back
in '82, and she is now a young adult, beyond any doubt. And she probably
does nicely fit what John wrote, with a few additions of my own :

I would guess that for her the '76 Summer Olympics in Montreal belong to
history, like the '56 Olympics in Melbourne do for me.
She probably has no idea why the Montreal City Hall balcony belongs to
history. It's the place where General de Gaulle adressed the public in '67.
She is probably aware of ONE referendum on Quebec self-determination, but
most likely not TWO.
Montreal has probably ALWAYS had TWO major airports for her.
The Jacques Cartier Bridge has always been free.
The Canadian Formula 1 Grand Prix has always existed, and always been held
at the Isle Note-Dame circuit in Montreal.

Now, do I qualify for old fogie ?

Just in case you were feeling young today, this will certainly change
things. Each year the staff at Beloit College in Wisconsin puts together a
list to try to give the faculty a sense of the mindset of that year's
incoming freshmen.
Here is this year's list:

[Stuff snipped for brevity ...]

Do you feel old yet? pass this on to the other old fogies.
