My client is getting ready to upgrade to 7.0 on their production
N-class
box and 997 D.R. box. Unfortunatley, the still have a vendor that
sends them
data that they load using a 7980 tape drive.
They have been told that the 7980 won't work under 7.0, and I was
wondering if anyone else had a workaround besides keeping an older box
on 6.5 and using it as a "tape server".
Also, anyone run into any troubles install 7.0 on a 997?

The 7980 is supported under 7.0, I've got one. The trick is you must
replace your HP-IB interface with a SCSI interface, converting your 7980 to
a 7980S (or 7980XC to 7980SX). As I understand it, this interface may be
hard to get and you might have to call several dealers to find the
conversion kit. I'm running a 995/500 on 7.0 with up to date patches, and
have had no problems for 9 months now.
