USRobotics makes a number of different product lines.
If you are using the Courier or the Sportster models,
setting register S13 bit 0 to 1 will configure the modem
to reset whenever DTR drops. In other words, at the end
of every call the modem will reset to a known state.
It will be the same as doing ATZ (reset to saved settings)
after every call.

The Courier command to set register 13 bit 0 to 1 is
AT S13.0=1

FWIW, I recommend the Courier models of modems, because
they will fall back to a lower speed when line conditions
deteriorate (no big deal there, most modems do that) and
will shift upward to higher speeds when the line improves
again (which is unique to Courier, I think). This depends on
the modems at both ends of the connection being Couriers.
We stay connected for days at a time (really!), and the
Courier modems ensure that the connection is always as fast
as possible.
