Assuming you have the latest telnet patches to make it a fair
comparison, it depends on what you are trying to save. NS/VT adds
the overhead of the VTSERVER process, while telnet plugs directly
into JSMAIN. Telnet incurs some CPU overhead, which can be
significantly reduced with the new line mode telnet and half-duplex
options (QCTerm and CSY support these now), but the 'overhead fears'
prior to it's release were never realized to be of any significance.
And NS/VT has problems with control-Y traps, significant in the Posix
shell.
