We had a nasty problem when we added the ONLINE or zero downtime option to
our RR backups. We had already been using the ONLINE option on another
system without any problems. This is what the errors look like:
/22:40/ RoadRunner ERROR 106: Unable to obtain online logging information
for
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
^
file /HMOCORP/BOBK/NJ3
/22:40/ MPE XL status: Subsystem 1000, error -38
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
After a few minutes the backup job hung and would not log off when aborted.
We then had to reboot. Upon further investigation I noticed that these
files had been compressed with CSM from Solution Soft. It appears that RR
bypasses the AIF trap and accesses the files in a different way. I've also
noticed that during patch installs (without running PENABLE which activates
the AIF trap), that MPE reports a bad file label when attempting to access
the file. The only conclusion I can come to is that there is a conflict
between RR ONLINE and CSM. I will be gradually decompressing files and will
try the ONLINE option again when completed. If ONLINE works without a
problem at that point, I will consider that further evidence that my
assumption is correct.
