Since knowledge is a wonderful thing to gain and experience, to save
time for those who would consider a white paper, maybe ideas should be
floated to this group. Those ideas could be grouped by subject and then
requests for specific white papers could be made.

Time is money and money spent on gaining pertinent knowledge for ones
job should be an great selling point to management.

this is a banner day for me! :-)

that's fine....we'll call it 'deeply educational' :-)

imo, anything and everything should be covered -- including image.

let me give a 'for instance'....got a image database with jumbo (chunk)
datasets....work is being done on the database that requires the
database to be purged (this step really is ok and not the point of the
story)....because the programmer knows that mpex will happily purge
'priv' files, tells mpex to '%purge mydb@.mygroup'....tries to recreate
the database and it doesn't work....and the programmer panics.

we all know (i trust) what the programmer did wrong in the above
example. what makes it all just that much worse is -- it's a true
story and done by an 'experience mpe programmer'. if this is at all
representative of the 'real world' -- then we all, and not just the
homesteaders, are in real trouble.

in my opinion, there is a fundamental lack of knowledge in much of
what's left of the mpe community. anything that can be done now to
educate folks is absolutely vital.
