The reason Jews begin the Sabbath observation at sunset
on Friday is
because the Hebrew calendar is lunar, not solar. The
effect is that
each "day" begins with the disappearance of the sun. [...]38_24Jun199717:01:[log in to unmask]

Something weird happened last night when we rebooted against the stage.

The system was shut down normally. The operator did the CTRL-B rs, then
"boot pri". The "boot from primary?" and "interact with ISL?" prompts
were answered.

Then the system printed "SOM ISL loaded" and hung. The operator waited
for 10 minutes without any response. The LEDs on the CPU were not
changing (unfortunately, the LED values were not written down or
remembered). It is unknown whether or not there was any LDEV 1 I/O
during this time.

The operator did another rs and boot pri. This time ISL loaded without
hanging, and a START NORECOVERY was done. Everything appeared to behave
normally after that.

The operator phoned me at home about the hang, and I dialed in to check
things out. As far as I can tell, the staged files seem to have been
installed. No problems were reported during the night shift or during today
so far.

The HPRC was unable to explain the hang. They dialed in to look around, and
didn't find anything wrong. I find it *very* suspicious that this is the
*only* ISL hang we've ever had, coming at the same time that I tried to stage
a powerpatch for the first time.

Stage/iX has worked perfectly for me for at least 5 previous reactive patch
sessions. If anybody else attempts to stage pp2, I'd be interested to see
your results posted to HP3000-L.
