Dear Steve,
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was suffering with a file transfer task: I wanted to experiment the way,
how could I migrate my Turbo Image data base from the HP3000 to the Unix
systems. I tried to transfer the 390,000 certificate records.
My last trial was: QUERY REPORT, with turned on logging under Advance
Link. Interesting that on my PC the AdvanceLink cannot work when the
Ethernet drive is laded. On the PC of my colleague, who is on vacations, I
could started a looged QUERY report to the mounted remoted drive of the
Alpha0.

I started it on Friday, and the PC died with EMM386 error, sometime on
Saturday. So I have SAVED data from 1966 to November, 1982.
There are some House (127) characters in the saved 30 MB (without
compression), denoting noise on the 9600 baud copper wire.
I interprete dmy interview with HP Hungary that HP prefers
migration to HP UNIX/windows NT + Oracle, instead of the smooth MPE iX +
Image SQL, what I prefer.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Monday, after this visit, I became very angry with the people sitting
around the huge, expensive terminals of the Alpha. If Mr. F. is out,
nobody can
handle the tape driver.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

What is your opinoion, what care the can_s and cannot_s of Image SQL and
Oracle?
Best wishes:

                                             Frank
