John,

I wasn't aware that we couldn't delete tape drives... However, it makes COMPLETE sense -- deleting your tape drive could really louse up your day.

I guess I'll have to restart the machine for this...

Yes the next logical step would be delete and re-add the device, but...
tape devices cannot be deleted. You can add, but now delete.

Jan,

As I understand it, DOIONOW is a command (or udc?) that takes any
changes made via SYSGEN, and implements them on your live system using
IOCONFIG.  In other words, to make changes active immediately, either
use IOCONFIG or the SYSGEN-DOIONOW combination.
