It Sounds like the default gateway on the HP3000 might have been shut down.
To check this do the following

Log on as Manager.sys
Run NETTOOL.NET.SYS
NAMEADDR
ROUTING
GATELIST

You will see the IP address of the default gateway and several columns of
information. Make sure the ACTIVE column has a Y.

If there is an N in the ACTIVE column do the following

GATEUP ip address (put the ip address of the default gateway in here)

That should take care of your problem!

Subject: HP 3000 (979-100) not able to communicate with network

I received the following message from our network specialist and am now
sending it out to you in hopes someone can shed some light on our problem:

>SCC, IMTC, and MERTS cannot attach to the HP any more. The HP cannot
>ping anything beyond the campus router. All pc on the same IP subnet can
>connect using reflection but other whose pcs are on different IP segments
>cannot communicate with the HP. Our routers are working and we can get
>IP firstclass email and our web servers are working.
>
>After running what I consider to be extensive tests from various
>locations, ie., IMTC, SCC and the main campus, I have determined the I
>think the problem is inherent in the HP itself. Routing is working from
>all satellite campuses and to all satellite campuses. Email works for
>everyone to me proving that the router is doing its job well. When
>running the Nettool.net.sys utilities from the HP, I can ping hosts on
>the same subnet 172.16.1.0. If I try to go outside of that LAN segment
>the HP has no clue as to how to go beyond that designated IP segment.
>From SCC and IMTC I can ping all of the key hosts on the main campus LAN
>with the exception of the HP.
