Hi all,
SIGMPE item 97M03 requests ...
"NEWUSER & NEWACCT should be issued once when used against Private Volume.
At present this facility requires enetering the command more than once.
In addition, because the documentation is somewhat cryptic, it is not
always easy to figure out how to do it! This prevents wider usage of a
really good feature!"
Several years ago I wrote a NEWGROUP UDC which atrtempted to address this
request. I think only a few people tried this UDC. One of the reasons is
that it did not handle the (not uncommon case) where groups in the same
account reside on different user volumes. I have corrected that oversight
and have added several new features, including a counterpart NEWACCT UDC,
two supporting scripts and documentation. One of the benefits of these
tools is that it the standard NEWGROUP and NEWACCT syntax is fully
supported, yet in all circumstances you only need to execute the command
once. Also, FILES= is manipulated so that the disk space is consumed only
on the user volume.
This is all available on jazz at:
http://jazz.external.hp.com/src/scripts/udcvol/index.html
or, navigate the freeware page.
I hope a few more of you who voted for the above SIGMPE item will try this
new version. I will be at IPROF and would appreciate all feedback.
Regards,
Jeff Vance, CSY
p.s. special thanks to Donna Garverick who tested earlier versions and
provided invaluable feedback
