There are scripts that do the installation for you. There should be one
called ./INSTALL.hp3000 that does most of the dirty work. Keep in mind
that this lives and runs in the POSIX name space, so you need to be in
the shell to invoke it. Further, it requires the POSIX Developer's Kit
(bundled into MPEiX 5.5 but not bundled on MPEiX 5.0).

Note that the version on Jazz is getting fairly long of tooth and you
would be better served to obtain the version on the FREEWARE
distribution available through Interex, or on the swap tape and FREEWARE
tapes available at this year's HPWorld. Jazz will be updated in the near
future to include the latest GNU (probably not until after HPWorld).

While I won't be at HPWorld this year, the latest GNU will be, thanks to
Michael Hensley of Allegro Consultants. Note that this year, there are
two new goodies, CVS (the Concurrent Version Control System), and P2C
(Pascal to C translator). Sorry, I didn't get GDB done due to a bug in
5.5's Power Patch-2 that needs to be resolved first. Look for that later
in the year.

Hope this helps.

M.
