The Interex Publications Department was most happy to hear
that Winston Kriger considers the articles in hp-ux/usr as
"high-quality and informative." Regarding his comments on
Interact, they are quite valid. The magazine is definitely
smaller. In fact, starting in February it will drop to 64
pages, the size of many similar magazines in the computing
world. The reason is economic. The ad revenues have
dropped considerably and the production costs have steadily
increased.
Over the years, we were able to put out a thick publication
because the ad revenue was very high AND because many users
submitted MPE articles for a small honorarium payment in the
spirit of sharing. In fact, I recognize many of you who
post on the list as former writers.
Last month I posted a request on this list for MPE articles
because each day I see a wealth of information passed among
you. Many of these tips could be made into short pieces for
a Users' Forum or into articles. I received no responses. I
also sent individual e-mail messages to former writers, but
discovered that busy schedules prevented most from
contributing. Meanwhile, we received numerous requests for
basic HP-UX information from MPE users entering the world of
multi-system shops and finding the articles in hp-ux/usr too
advanced. Since Marty Poniatowski of HP has been well
received at Interex conferences we decided to run his
series in Interact. A stack of MPE articles waiting to be
published probably would have made a difference in our
thinking and we may have offered the series in a different
vehicle. Many of you who post on this list have brought
numerous contributions to Interex over the years. We
recognize your loyalty and value your MPE expertise. It's up
to you to again help fill Interact with informative tips and
articles. Hope to hear from you soon!
P.S. Thanks to those who shed light on David Brown.
