Well, consider this: In 1994 (when I got here) and for about a year (at
least) we ran a 948 with 24 MB of RAM, and this was a production machine
with about 20 users on it (this is what happens when you rely on some
unscrupulous third-party supplier for your technical info). My predecessor
upgraded a 922 to a 948 (by swapping the system board) and never upgraded
the memory. We found out about it when I placed an HPRC call and was
informed that the minimum 948 memory requirement was 64MB and that HP
was not obligated to support a 24 MB configuration.
Needless to say, we promptly bought more memory. Oh, and BTW, the
third-party supplier said, when asked by me why he didn't tell my
predecessor she needed more memory for a 948, "She didn't ask me."!
