So there is a green circuit board with a 68 pin connector, a Molex (4 pin pc type) power socket, and some jumpers for addressing, screwed to the drive?
Something like these:

And there is a multi connector scsi cable inside the cage?

I actually have such a connector at home from adapted some 80 pin drives for PC scsi use years ago....

I pulled out the card cage from our long dead 929 (should be same as
959).

The discs have HP part number A3353A, which are old Seagate 4GB discs.

The interesting part is they all have a little green chip board adapter
that connects them to the ribbon cable.

I didn't take it further apart, but I suspect the little board converts
it to "whatever", in this case probably SCSI.
