You scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream ;-)

One minor technical detail: Do you mind whether your DATA stays on disk
or not?

"Almost instantly" sounds as if the POINTER to the data is marked "null"
(or whatever semi-equivalent method is used by each specific
implementation of the TRUNCATE command).

If this is what you wish, then you are all set. If, however, you want
to be sure that you DELETE all traces of your data, then you may wish to
use a more time-consuming method that goes through EVERY bit and changes
it to something useless for spies. This takes a bit of extra effort.

As with ice cream, you want to choose your flavor carefully.

Enjoy,
