Hello Friends:

Reji Jacob of the Bangalore CSY team is asking what kinds of things are
high on everybody's wish lists to be ported to MPE. And Lars Appel of HP
pointed out, rightly, that MIME/SMTP mail systems are in abundant supply
for the 3000s (so who needs a port of sendmail or elm, right?)

But Lars suggests that LPR/LPD remote printing utilities might be a good
porting candidate. Like the mail systems, these printing facilities are
also offered by HP 3000 channel partners. We've got a TestDrive article on
one offering, PRINTPATH/SE from RAC Consulting, coming up in the May issue
of the 3000 NewsWire.

Here's something nobody's offering on an HP 3000 -- Domain Name Services.
Life on the Internet for 3000-only shops involves letting a PC handle the
DNS work for the 3000. HP touts the 3000 as the most reliable Internet
server, but it still has to rely on a less-reliable PC to stay on the
Internet. We've asked HP more than once before and been told MPE/iX-native
DNS is not that important to the 3000s. Well, so long as Reji is asking
what his group can do, how about DNS for the 3000? I'm assuming that it's
ready to port from HP-UX ;)
