I have this same problem (on 5.5 using Telamon's FREEVT3K) and HPTYPEAHEAD is
set to FALSE ... Don't know what icauses it. I think it
got this way after installing powerpatch 1 but I could be mistaken.
Speaking of HPTYPEAHEAD, does anybody on this list use this flag ? Personally I find
it very hard to run a session without typeahead, but it seems able to cause some
problems of its own.
