If you’re planning on using a compatible License, you can get code for standardized virtual disk image formats and manipulation from SIMH, Hercules, etc. and many of those efficiently support compressed disk images too. If you use a standard format you immediately get compatibility with various other disk image manipulation tools etc.

That is certainly a possibility. dd the disk drive.... strangely enough, I think I did that before. I still have the disk drives laying around. Now if I can find the disk images on my backups. I remember they were 18GB.

Thanks for the idea!

While you probably want the tape image eventually, and alternative way of bootstrapping things would be to take a disk image of an installed system, say a single-disc 9x8 box, and do your development trying to get it to boot and run from the disk rather than spending all the time trying to get booting from tape and running INITIAL to complete an INSTALL first.

P.S. Only 12 days until the 50th anniversary of the HP 3000!

Subject: [HP3000-L] Need a 6.5 SLT tape

Everyone,
I am trying to create an MPE emulator for the PC.
I am looking for an MPE 6.5 system load tape, preferably a 928 or similar. What I want to do is create an SLT tape, then use tapecopy to copy the SLT to a disc file. I just need the disc file.
Can anyone help?-Craig
