Hello Friends:

3000 NewsWire subscriber Duane Percox asked if "there is an orderable
product from HP that will convert your 9000 hpux system to a 3000 mpe/ix
system?"

It can be done, but you have to work with HP in a special order situation.
Back in April of 1996 we reported:

In an offering designed to assure its business server customers, HP
has placed items on its price list that help convert an HP 3000 to an HP
9000 - and vice versa.
The technical data sheet for these Hardware Conversion Kits has a
double-headed arrow between HP 3000 Server and HP 9000 Server, indicating
the conversions operate in two directions. However, only the kits
converting HP 3000s to HP 9000s have prices in the current HP Corporate
Price List. Conversions to HP 9000s are available as "factory specials."

In other words, it's not on the price list, but you can buy it if you ask
for it. CSY's redoubtable Dave Snow, voice of product planning for HP
systems, also reported in the story:

Snow said HP is offering to do conversions from HP's G, I, E and
K-Class HP 9000s, as well as from T-500 systems, to the HP 3000. "Customers
can contact our local sales force and we'll work with them to make that
happen," he said. "We've had some selected customers who've asked for that,
and we've been working with them."
