While at my previous employer, we found that from 6.0 to 6.5, there are COBOL date handling routines (system, not our own) that can get compiled into COBOL objects. These routines are not compatable across MPE versions. This is covered in the release notes or some documentation that is available to everyone on HP support.

Subject: [HP3000-L] Object code issues between 6.0 and 6.5
We just received the excerpt below from our software vendor. Is anyone
familiar with what problems *Might* arise by co-mingling 6.0 and 6.5 object
generated by the Cobol compiler?
Since our operating system remains 6.0 at the present time, clients who
have already upgraded to MPE/iX 6.5 may experience problems when
compiling individual pieces of code/source sent to them. In order to
alleviate the potential for this problem, we suggest that you do not
recompile individual pieces of code/source, but rather recompile all
code/source when the need arises.
Thanks.
Boyd.
