Hello Friends:

I received a private e-mail asking:

>Just what is SSA? Any links to look at?

Anticipating this, we've reposted our primer on SSA storage from the August
3000 NewsWire issue at our FreeNews Web site of Always Online (meaning
everybody can look it over, not just paid subscribers):

http://www.3000newswire.com/newswire/SSAPrimerFN.html

The article is written by David Leith of Compass Corporate Systems, one of
the companies in the hunt for SSA business at HP 3000 sites. (Compass also
has SSA installed at HP 9000 sites). If it's a bit pro-SSA, it's also as
well-informed a source on the technology's potential as we could hope to
get at this early date in its 3000 lifespan.

I first saw SSA working at an IBM conference three years ago. It appears to
have a lot of promise for HP 3000 customers who need fast, agile storage in
large capacities. I defer to experts such as Bill Lancaster on the ultimate
merits of choosing it, until more field experience emerges.
