Yes sir, I have. Everytime there is a new law promoting equality or
adding new catagories to our hate crime laws I can point to front page
stories,
ringing denunciations from the pulpits and political campaigns to remove
them from the books. Ever heard of Take Back Vermont, Take Back
Maryland, Admentment 2, the Irvine Human Rights Ordinance, San
Francisco's Human Rights Ordinance, ad nauseum? Remember Jim Crow
laws
in the South and the fight over those? The poll tax laws? The Fugitive
Slave Act? The Missouri Compromise? The Blue Laws? (yes you can
shop
on Sunday now) The laws against abortion that stood until Roe v. Wade?
The Virginia Car Tax Law? Ever read the occasional story in the
newspaper when a legislature decides to rescind laws that are silly a
century later (firing shotguns and ringing bells when an automobile
comes
to
an intersection is one of my favorites). How about Sunset provisions of
many contemporary laws?
